capture probs w/ XL1a footage

Any thoughts? I shoot on XL1a, when I capture from same camera or a Sony DCR-HC38 via firewire on a G5 to FCP 5.1 I have errors or problems...but it always works w/ a borrowed XL1s. Could it be my drivers? and how could I check them?
Thanks for any ideas, (Video-one is looking at it right now and can't find any problems)

Every DV camera or deck reads tape in a slightly different spot. It's possible the footage recorded by the XL1 cannot be read properly by the Sony. I'd recommend investing in a nice DV deck for ingesting, rather than relying on a camera for this task it wasn't really designed for. You can find the DSR11 from Sony- total workhorse for this for under $1K these days.
