gamma shift when timeline played

Firstly, let me explain my timeline settings
Custom 2048x512 Aspect Custom
Pixel Square Filed None Edit TB 30
QT Apple Pro Res 422
Video Out: Off

My timeline right now is a preproduction test
with stills on the left, center, and right of the screen
(as this timeline is actually meant to be projected to
three screens)

When I render the timeline the stills gamma looks
right when in pause/still mode-but when I hit play/spacebar
the image become brighter.

Control 1) this does not show up on the video scopes
Control 2) If I put these images into a vanilla DV timeline
the gamma shift does NOT occur on rendered playback

Control 3) Export as QT seems to generate the correct
gamma as the still/pause in the timeline (which is good)

I had tried adding gamma correction, enabling 4:4:4 color
setting in ProRes, etc, changing to 10 bit uncompressed
but this mysterious shift on playback still exists.

As this is a custom rig, I wonder if anyone has some thoughts
on this?

#2 Blurry Playback/GAMMA SHIFT

Shane's Stock Answer #2: Blurry playback or shift in brightness.

ONLY JUDGE THE QUALITY OF YOUR MATERIAL ON AN EXTERNAL BROADCAST MONITOR, OR AT LEAST A TV.

Video playback requires large amounts of data and many computations. In order to maintain frame rate and be viewable at a normal size, only about one-fourth of the video data is used in displaying the movie to the screen. However, the footage is still at full quality, and is best viewed thru a TV or broadcast monitor routed thru your camera or deck.

At 2048x512 This is not possible, in fact you have to
disable Video Out, as this resolution is not HD, nor SD,
but rather a custom, non-broadcast FCP created resolution that
will only be shown on PC projectors.

Again the QT is NOT gamma shifting and that is what goes
to PC Flash to create the three screen presentation.

What I was asking is why there is any gamma shift compared
to still/paused verus playing viewing in the canvas.

Well, did you read the SECOND part of that answer?

FCP will lower the quality of the footage to ensure smooth playback, and that includes making it blurrier or lightening the footage. As you noted, it is all normal when you export, it only does this on playback. All is fine, FCP just cannot handle this footage at full quality on playback.
