DVX100 24P/ 24PA on DV/NTSC timelinePosted by Lindacine
I'm cutting a doc on FCP 6.0.6. All the footage to date was shot on a DVX 100A at 30i. I need to add some 8mm footage. After some tests I discovered shooting the 8mm footage at 24P looks best and 24PA next best. 30i & 30p have flicker. I intend to finish 30i. Can I edit either of these frame rates on my present DV/ NTSC timeline? Do I need to capture the footage differently because of the pull down?
The regular 24P setting (not 24PA) records at 29.97, so it cuts normally with standard interlaced video.
FYI most people use "60i" or "29.97" when referring to standard-def footage like that. I have the DVX100B, and all modes except 24PA record at 29.97, with different interlaced/progressive looks. Only 24PA actually record at 23.98, which you wouldn't want to mix with your regular 29.97 footage. JK _______________________________________ SCQT! Self-contained QuickTime ? pass it on!
Yeah really depends whether you're removing 24pA pulldown or not. Otherwise all modes come out 29.97. And I would suggest getting a proper telecine of the 8mm footage. It's relatively cheap and will look way better than shooting it off a screen. Try Pro 8mm in Burbank:
