moving video from Panther to leopard???

I've been storing dv pal video files on my old G4 in which I have on internal Seagate hard drive. I want hose files now and thought I could transfer then using another external hard drive. I have a newish G Tech portable and although Dick Utility on the G4 kinda recognizes the G Tech the G4 (OSX panther) does'nt. Is the G Tech portable too new? Do i need to get an older external. cheers Phil
