Jagged graphics from Photoshop

This problem has been plaguing me for a long time and I want to get to the bottom of it.

Say I have a logo in Photoshop that has no background, and I want to put it over some motion video. I have tried saving as a Targa with and without an Alpha channel, as well as importing the PSD file. This has happened in standard def, ProRes and HDV projects...the graphic will look nice and sharp...until it's rendered, then there are jaggies around all the edges.

Unrendered - sharp, crisp and clean
Rendered - jagged

I'm trying to figure out what's going wrong here. I've changed the render control settings, and have used several different sequence formats, and still can't get them to come out sharp.

Help!

Thanks!

What you're seeing is normal. NTSC's 4:2:2 chroma subsampling produces visible artifacts on the left and right edges of areas of high color contrast. It's just an inherent part of television.

Try this:
1. Set Canvas to 100% precisely.
2. Sequence Menu > Render Selection > Full (be sure it is checked)
3. Select Graphic
4. Render item: CMD + R
5. Check results on broadcast monitor
6. Check results on Canvas at 100% if no broadcast monitor
