I will try to be as thorough as possible listing the flow and
use of what i am trying to accomplish. via the XDCAM transfer software I have ingested about 80 small 10-20 second clips that would ultimately be played with zoom player on a windows pc. so the clips were ingested into the xfer software and i set the playback settings on fcp 6.02 (on a dual g5 2.5G machine with 2 g ram) the finder reports these clips as 29.97 and the sequence is 29.97 XDCAM 1440x1080 as per spec. Most of the clips look ok, but the ones with pans are all stutter in the viewer or the canvas. NOTE I do not need to output to video therefore external video is turned OFF. If I view the raw clips with stutter in QT it actually looks worse than in FCP, as I have played with setting my Unlimited RT to dynamic, rather than high. By frame scrolling through the clips all the progressive frames are there; but it seems as though the computer has a rough time playing it back (and it is set to FIT to Window) As a test I took a stutter plan shot and compressored it to prores422 and then reimported it-same problem of stutter. Any ideas as to why I am getting unsmooth playback? I looked in the FAQ and couldn't find this specific problem. Thanks
XDCAM EX footage? Are you running off any external drives? How much space do you have in the hard drives?
>If I view the raw clips with stutter in QT it actually looks worse than in >FCP, as I have played with setting my Unlimited RT to dynamic Turn it to Unlimited RT quality to "high". Then make sure report dropped frames on playback is checked. Then play the clip and if you get a warning on dropping frames on playback. Basically one of the usual answers to qualities related to display, is whether you are viewing off a broadcast monitor, if not, hook it up to a broadcast monitor and check again. www.strypesinpost.com

The footage has been put on a Huge 320 Raid array. If I set it it to Unlimited RT High and play through the Kona 2 to a broadcast monitor I still get stuttery playback. It is odd a 320MB/s drive like the Huge 320 with 512G of 1T free, would stutter on pans. I am at a loss!
