Quick question, is there an easy way to convert a 29.97 stock video into my HDV 720p24 format?

No. Converting from 60i to 24p is the hardest format conversion there is. You can't do it satisfactorily without a hardware device like an Alchemist or a Teranex, or a lot of rendering time through Compressor or another optical-flow-based retimer.

And converting SD 29.97 to HDV 23.98? Ugh. SD to the GOP format. Use Compressor to convert it to ProRes, and make sure the Frame Controls are all on BEST.

And change your render settings to ProRes so everything matches.

Whoops, is this SD material? I totally failed to read that between the lines.

Yeah, SD to HD with an interlaced-to-progressive conversion and a time-base change and going from 60i to 24p? That's the nightmare scenario.

If it were all the same raster ? and this is what I came back here to say, 'cause I didn't think to before ? the "correct" thing to do in this case is to insert pulldown into the 24p material and just cut it with the 60i stuff if you have the option of delivering a 60i master. Like if you're delivering for television, or for DVD authoring and duplication.

If you don't have the option of delivering 60i, then do what Shane said, except do a very small test first. Because the render times will be outrageous, and you still might not get results that meet your approval.

Well i was about to post about a 29.97 to 23.98 conversion when i saw this topic.

The show is shot with a PMW-EX1 from Sony ---> 1080p24(XDCAM EX codec)

But the DOP, thinking he would get a slow-mo result filmed some beauty shots in 1080p30(29,97). Than he forgot to reset is camera to the original 1080p24 and filmed some interviews in that 1080p30 format.

Now we have to incorporate some 1080p30 interviews shots in a 1080p24 timeline.

I thought maybe if i send a playback from the 1080p30 timeline into another Kona Card and digitize the feed in 1080p24 i could get a result but as i realize it didnt work really well.

What could i do ?

do i have to try it by compressor ?

Is there a plugin in the Natress Standards Conversions that i could use to do the trick.

Thx guys.
