simple question:

is there a tool to automatically get rid of excess luma and make it broadcast safe?

I do NOT recommend the Broadcast Safe Filter...it does something wonky with the calculations and introduces ARTFACTS where there are massive gradients (like clouds). I use a combo of the 3-Way Color Corrector and Levels along with the scopes (Color Correction Window Layout) and color correct / adjust levels manually.

EDIT:

I have avoided this plug-in since v5.1.4 so I just did a test. It looks to me like the recent Broadcast Safe plug-in looks better than older versions. I would choose "Extra Conservative" if going to Broadcast for those persnickety engineers (yes...you know who you are) grinning smiley

When life gives you dilemmas...make dilemmanade.
