Is External Video broken in version 7.0.1? I can't get any sequence to be displayed on my second monitor using cmd+f12, and I've checked "All Frames", refreshed a/v devices and restarted the computer.

It's a regular computer monitor (dual display), and I'm used to cutting while watching the results in full screen. What could be wrong?

apparently this can be solved by replacing the file DesktopVideoout.component from version 7.0.1 with the file that originaly came with 7.0. how can that be done without an extensive and lengthy reinstallation process?

I'm thinking of Pacifist, but of course, clone your drives first.

i managed to get to that file on the FCP7 install disc.
here's what to do:

Load up your Final Cut Studio Install disk,
or if you've made a disk image (good idea) access that.

Inside that, notice that the "Instal Final Cut Studio" package is actually an Alias,
so right-click on that and "Show Original"

You'll be taken to a folder called "Installer" inside of which is another folder called "Packages"

Inside the Packages folder locate the VideoOutSupport.pkg,
right-click on it, and "Show Package Contents"

Inside the Contents folder, locate the Archive.paz.gz file.
Drag it to the desktop, and double click on it to un-zip it.

This will create a folder called "Library"
Open it, go to the QuickTime folder inside it,
and there you will find the file "DesktopVideoout.component"

Put this file in Macintosh HD > Library >QuickTime,
replacing the similarly named file there.

Digital Cinema Desktop Preview should now work.

Can we put this in the Wiki please? I think it's going to come up a lot.

Added. I never remember how to use it. It's kinda like me in After Effects or Photoshop. I keep figuring it out from scratch every time I go into it.
