Hi All:

Are there less expensive alternatives to small-tree and edit share, for shared ethernet storage.

Thanks,

G.

The Small Tree solution is the cheapest. It is a BREAKTHROUGH in inexpensive shared storage. Sorry, but shared storage and SANs are NOT cheap things. The Small Tree option is good as there is NO SEAT LICENSE for each connection.

Thanks Shane,

Do you own, or have you used one?

Thanks,

G.

Sorry forgot to ask,

Will small-tree playback uncompressed SD 10 Bit?

Thanks,

G.

I don't own or use one. At work we have a regular old Fibrechannel SAN. At home, miniSAS and eSATA stuff.

Uncompressed SD? CAKEWALK! How about 2K ProRes on a MacBook...non-pro? That's what was demo'd last year. 4 machines playing Red 2K from the Ethernet SAN.

We're testing a huge 32 TB Small Tree ethernet storage set-up centered on 5 FCS Stations.

Had a lot of problems at the onset...had the entire rack filled with those bad Seagate 1.5 TB drives...were losing a drive a day for a few weeks (red lights popping on all over the chassis) and the switch kept kicking us off network. They finally pulled the entire chassis and replaced it all with 32 - 1 TB Hitachi's (32 TB) and a faster switch. No issues after that. We are still testing it. Our main format is 1280 x 720p ProRes / ProRes HQ with some 1080i projects.

When life gives you dilemmas...make dilemmanade.
