OT-creating thumbnails for Finder for QT movies?Posted by mark@avolution
I have thumbnails in FCP for multiple clips, but I need to close FCP and load Motion to do a
montage intro. There are 230 QT clips, and I can't keep both apps open as I only have 2Gig of Ram. Finder by default icon display just shows the QT logo. Is there a way to get thumbnails for this? OSX 4.11 G5 2G Ram Motion 3 FCP 6.02
Probably better to dump the G5 entirely,
I was extremley dissappointed with only 2G of Ram and a 9800 card as opposed to a 6800 card. But this system was bought turnkey back in 04'. Rule of thumb is 2G per processor. As I have discovered in recent days, 10.4 (both client and server) and PowerPC are both effectively end-of-lifed. Just as an example: Xsan 2.1 works on PowerPC, but Xsan 2.2 does not. Xsan 2.1 clients can join SANs managed by Xsan 2.2 controllers, if you set things up correctly. But you cannot buy Xsan 2.1. You can only buy Xsan 2.2. So if you have a mixed-architecture SAN running on Xsan 1.4 and you want to upgrade to Xsan 2, you're going to have to unplug your G5 systems.
The question isn't whether to upgrade from PowerPC to Intel, or to 10.5 or 10.6 The question isn't even when. The question is "why not right now?"
And when you do upgrade to 10.5 / 10.6, you can use the Set Poster Frame function in QuickTime Player to set a specific frame as the thumbnail.
