Accessing via AMA, or transcoding to DNxHD? And you are looking at this on a broadcast monitor, I assume. Being a Symphony...

Is is Mac to PC? There is a notorious gamma shift between the 2. I would transcode everything FIRST to DNxHD then import. Did you try exporting a single clip from Quicktime to DNxHD? Does the gamma shift on FCP export or after Avid import?

Try interping it as rgb. I had a similar issue a few days ago moving from avid to FCP where the clip was brighter. Both on the scopes and on the mon (the letterbox was on the 10% line). We toggled the export settings and we were fine.

Try interpreting it as rgb. That tells avid where to map the black/white points. Otherwise it could be the QuickTime gamma thing that Joey mentioned.

I think we figured it out.
When importing the files into the AVID you must have RGB selected. When importing the files back into the final cut you must under user preferences and the editing tab select the gamma level 2.22 on importstills/rgb video gamma. On export from AVID we used the compressed codec "none" Hope this helps others.
Yea, RGB will map the black point of the incoming clip to 0, instead of -10.
You can try exporting to ProRes if you have FCP installed on that machine. ![]() www.strypesinpost.com
