One sided phone call

I received a copy of a phone call that is .avi extention when I import it into soundtrack pro I only hear the caller and not the person receiving the call. When I play the audio in quicktime I have the same problem but when I play it in windows media player I get both sides of the phone call.
I am guessing soundtrack doesn't like .avi extentions. If that's the case is there a free reliable converter I can download?
