OT: Comcast to Wipe Out NBC logoPosted by Loren Miller
Folks, I love egg tarts too, but dammitall, here's a media-related OT--
Comcast, the newly FCC-sanctioned vertical monopolist has to be reigned in here. They're toying with American media history when they go after the Peacock. Save the Peacock... again! Swamp 'em! - Loren Today's FCP 7 keytip: Play from Playhead to Out Mark with Shift-P ! Your Final Cut Studio KeyGuide? Power Pack. Now available at KeyGuide Central. www.neotrondesign.com
Well, I wrote in to impart my dismay. The peacock is already gone from internal corporate ID cards and stationary. How quickly Comcrass works-- the acquisition wasn't even final. And I thought Bill Gates had no taste.
I think the Comcast logo SHOULD be an egg tart. - Loren Today's FCP 7 keytip: Play from Playhead to Out Mark with Shift-P ! Your Final Cut Studio KeyGuide? Power Pack. Now available at KeyGuide Central. www.neotrondesign.com
I was working there when they tried to get rid of the bird the first time; first to the University of Nebraska "N" (D'Oh!), then to the red and blue "N," and then finally to the Proud N with the stylized bird over the N.
The bird worked out. The older bird, first, had feet and that's how you can tell, but looked dated in the same sense you can tell when you're looking at a Louis XIV credenza. Hard to miss. The new bird was seriously cool and we all breathed a sigh of relief. OK. We can go with this. Anybody remember the original theme? We're Proud! Uh-huh, Say it again! N...B...C I recall they still had the bells in there near the end. That was recorded in Hollywood. The singers also recorded a spoof "We're Loud!" There was no internet then, but the spoof made it across the country in about 48 hours using non-NBC network services. ABC Radio West passed it off to CBS Transmission who...etc. I wrote that up somewhere. It was pretty funny. Koz
The corporate logo doesn't include the peacock but different divisions like NBC may have their own logo that will include the peacock. It's too early to say. From what we're told, this will be the case. (I happen to work at Universal).
As an example, the motion picture group is Universal Pictures. No mention of NBC at all. It's been that way since the GE acquisition.
That's the way it should be. You're in production, NBC is mostly distribution, and they are always two separate cultures. It would disturb me to see a peacock strutting around Universal.
