Relinking Problems with Synced Drives

I've come across an odd FCP issue lately and I'm wondering if you can help me out.

For a while I've been pretty successful working on two machines by keeping the media drives regularly synced. The drive names, folders, files, etc. are all exactly the same. So if an FCP project is brought from one machine to another, they don't require any relinking. Now we have a project where the media is on two identical 4 TB G-Raids, but there's some persistent syncing issues with certain clips. Always the same ones. I'm not sure why this is happening now on this project. All the files etc. are in the same exact structure on each drive.

Is this a known issue that I've somehow luckily avoided until now? Has anyone had this problem and discovered the source?

Never seen it before. Do those clips contain illegal characters?

You'll have to be a bit more specific. Do you mean audio sync issues after a relink? Or do you mean you can't relink certain clips to a different drive? Are you relying on automatic relinking (based on identical folder names, etc.), or does manual relinking (navigating to the correct folders yourself) not work either?

have a close look at those clips, both in FCP, and in the finder (both sets of drives)
what is different about them?

do they not have reel#s?
are they in specific folders?
(wildly grasping at straws) is there some sort of permissions issue going on?

It seems to be relinking to certain clips on a certain drive. I actually don't know the exact details yet as I'm consulting with another assistant editor on this one. Unfortunately he's been having to do some irksome manual relinking when swapping the project from one machine to the other.

Thanks Nick. I'm looking forward to getting a chance to look further at what's going on in the project that's causing this behavior. I'll let you know what we find.
