Trying to export FCP to mp4, "Error: Out of Memory!"

50 minute documentary. Trying to export to mp4. Two tracks containing watermarks all the way through. After an hour, get "Error: Out of Memory!". FCP Preferences are set to an internal drive with 1TB free space. Boot drive has 500 GB free space.

EXPORT SPECS: Video format H.264, data rate 2000 kbits/sec, 30 fps, keyframe every 150 frames, image size 640x480 VGA.

Thanks for any help!

Snow Leopard 10.6.6
FCP 7.0.3
Mac Pro 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Zeon
3 GB 1066 MHz DDR3

Export a full-quality reference or self-contained movie file first, then use Compressor or MPEG Streamclip to make the MPEG-4. Doing this kind of export with FCP is pretty inefficient, because FCP was not designed for this particular task.

Ditto, Derek!

Having had an early bad experience via FCP, I use the QT self-contained route; then QT conversion, or MPEG Streamclip, or HandBrake. But I've never tried using a full-quality ref mov. Never felt too confident using Compressor either.

Best wishes.

If your timeline is fully rendered, you may have less issues.
