Resizing Photoshop Cut Out In FCP

I've cut out the foreground of a photo(jpeg) in Photoshop Elements, and when I import that layer to FCP the size of the photo, imported as a sequence, is resized very large and i'm not sure how to resize it to a size I can work with. When I look at it in the viewer or canvas, even at 25 % it is visually too large to manage properly and slows down everything considerably. Can you offer some advice as to how I can fix this? I hope i've explained this properly. The technical side of Photoshop and FCP is something I do not always understand well. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Save a copy of the graphic under a new name (to preserve the size and specs of the original). Then resize the copy to something manageable, 72dpi, and no larger than double the size of your video frame.
