Advice on Sequence Settings on old restored movie

I just reloaded a movie from backup onto FCP 6 from the old FCP 4.5 HD Days.
As all the render files are gone, but the sequences, reels, movies, and sound effects
are all intact.
I thought it might be a good time to modernize the render /and/or sequence settings.

All 13 scenes are 1280x1080 Aspect Ratio 16:9 HD (1280x1080)
Pixel Aspect Ratio HD (1280x1080)
Fields none
Editing timebase 23.976

With the compressor set to native DVCPRO HD 1080i60

(till this point I have had nothing to do with this project so the compressor setting seems
a bit suspect)

Anyhow, can DVCProHD projects be upgraded to ProRes, or am I forced to edit
in the native (present) settings?

Greetings from Sarnia, Ontario

The issue is that only Dvcpro HD in NTSC regions use that frame size. Although Prores supports multiple frame sizes, other softwares may have issues interpreting the pixel aspect ratio flag. Also, full raster Prores HQ is a superior mastering format to Dvcprohd. Looks better on graphics.

One thing you can do is to media manage (recompress) the final edit sequence to Prores HQ, although I usually do that when I'm color correcting. However, you may have to re-do your stills if you use stills.

Alternatively, you can transcode all the footage to Prores (in Compressor or do a batch export from FCP), and change your sequence to Prores... That or change your sequence without converting the footage and render out as Prores.
