Edit to tape window is reading 29.97 from a 23.98 tape

Hello does anyone have any experience with edit to tape in general and mis read time code in particular. I am trying to insert edit to a hdcam sr deck on a 1080 @23.98 tape. I cannot get proper time code sync because my FCP is reading a 29.97 time code from a 23.98 tape.

Sounds like a pulldown is added somewhere. Is the tape deck set to 23.98? Check "system frames" on the deck. In FCP, use an easy setup preset for 23.98 from the manufacturer of your capture card.

I don't know about HDCam tapes, but I thought all tapes were 29.98 with pulldown added.

Nope. HDCAM, HDCAM SR and D5 HD are able to store 23.98 on tape without pulldown.
