FCP 7 and Motion 4 - bad quality text outputPosted by ponzzz
Sorry my subject is less than descriptive. Here is my problem.
I am having difficulty getting text to not look all "SD" when generated in Motion 4. I generate a project file in Motion and put it on the timeline as usual. But, the text looks crappy. I have to export a mov file...which is kinda weird. My FCP sequences are ProRes 422, 1080, 29.97. So, exporting mov files solved the problem, although its a crappy workflow. now, I am having a terrible time with a ProRes 422, 720, 23.98 sequence. I can't get any text to look right...it looks pixilated as opposed to vectored. the Motion Project file looks like crap, the exported QT movs look like crap... I've tried exporting ProRes, Animation, Uncompressed...everything looks like crap. I have recently upgraded to FCS3 and never had this problem with FCS2. If this is a known problem does anyone have a work-around? thanks, Pons
How does it look inside Motion, and what kind of text are you trying to generate? Colored text is generally bad for video.

I've heard about similar problems but never heard how they were solved.
You can download my TitleExchange. The installation includes a free app called psTitles which allows to use PhotoShop (with scripting) to create layerd TIFFs which are editable. Maybe that helps. Andreas Some workflow tools for FCP [www.spherico.com] TitleExchange -- juggle titles within FCS, FCPX and many other apps. [www.spherico.com]
Do you have Motion display set to "Best"?
This might help. ponzzz Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sorry my subject is less than descriptive. >I do get a bit confused as to what codec to set the Motion Project.
>I try to match my FCP sequence but not all the codecs are listed in Motion. You can use Animation or Prores 4444. The reason why not all the codecs are listed is because not all of the formsts come with an alpha channel. ![]() www.strypesinpost.com
