Final Cut Pro 3 - all black screen

Hi again,

I have FCP3 on a G4 and we were setting preferences on the easy set up and - after we set it up - the whole thing went black except for the dock at the bottom. When I go to the four corners of mac we can see the browser and the files but if we click on those the screen go to black... but there is no way to even quit FCP at that point. And we cannot get to preferences -

we tried escape both holding and clicking
we tried control and option and Q
nothing works.

Any ideas?

You have External Video set to Digital Cinema Desktop - Main. Press COMMAND-F12 to get out of it.

You're already in FCP with that black screen. Go up to the top -- View - External Video - Off.

But we cannot select any of those drop down menus

the only thing that works is apple menu and everything else is all gray and not dark and clickable
and the help menu - nothing else is functioning

Can anyone tell me a complete way to uninstall and reinstall so that maybe the Cinema thing does NOT come up anymore.

THIS is NOT working..... nothing happens with escape or command f-12

Tips for Using Digital Cinema Preview
Regular editing commands still work when full-screen video is presented on the main display. This means you can still mark In and Out points, use JKL-playback, and so on. For a list of shortcut keys: From the Tools menu, choose Keyboard Layout and then choose Customize from the submenu, or see the Final Cut Pro 4 Quick Reference Card.

Command-F12 is the default shortcut key for turning external video monitoring on and off. When full-screen video is presented on the main display, the menu bar cannot be seen, so it is important to learn the shortcut key.

To turn off full-screen video presented on the main display:
Press Command-F12 or press the Escape key.

For me, on one of my Macs, it's the Function (fn) Command and F12.

What happens when you hit the Escape ESC key?

What happens when you hit the W key a couple times?

Just ideas...

we tried the Command F12 and the Escape but never tried the W - after this happened my g4 failed to launch the next day and NOTHING would get the computer to start up... I am not looking for the start up disks for 10.3.9 UGH

If everything else is working, f12 along may do the trick on a G4.
