General Error?

FCP 7
OS X 10.6.8
2.16 GHz Intel
939 GB on harddrive

Something strange just started happening that I have never experienced in ten years. I am creating a clip from FCP 7 in Apple ProRes 422 HQ (which I have been doing for months), and now, all of a sudden, I am getting a General Error when I use "Using Quicktime Conversion". If I use "Quicktime Movie" all is fine. I did not change any settings (422HQ, 48 kHz). I shut down the computer, restarted the computer then FCP. Same problem. I am stumped. Any ideas?

What codec are you converting to? Might be better to do a straight native export and use Compressor, Episode or Squeeze to convert it to desired format.

10-bit can be problematic, it requires something like 4 times the memory of an 8-bit clip. Might be the length of the clip that causes the error. It's really made for 64-bit machines and those with very powerful GPU's.

General errors are always a bitch. Might read this article to see if anything applies
