Shortcut for linking clips

I have a sequence full of unlinked clips. Is there a fast way I can link all of them?

Were they unlinked by hand? If not, you could just switch on the 'linking' button at the top right of your timeline - it looks like a small pair of chain links.

as Jude sugests, Timeline Linking may be turned off.
fingers crossed on that.

otherwise you can NOT link multiple clips in one fell swoop.
oh, you could by XML, but you'd have to write your own software...

i automate this with QuicKeys

x (mark in/out)
option a (select marked)
apple L (link selection)

option x (remove in/outs)
v (select nearest edit - de-selecting clip in process)
down arrow (go to next edit)

actually this string of commands is for a simple timeline

i've got other short cuts if it's a complex edited piece.
i inherited a feature film recently, and had to re-link everything!
QuicKeys made it possible to do without going mad.

Hi Nick,

There are a ton of clips, so I'd love to hear about your other shortcuts. Thanks! I really appreciate it

if your ton of clips are all laid out in a simple fashion, all you need is what i outlined above.

do you have Quickeys or something similar?
QK has a 3 day free trial

Oh oops, accidentally overlooked the word Quickeys. Is it compatible with Mountain Lion? Some users say it works fine, but the website says it is not compatible

sorry, i dont have mountain lion.
download it and try.

there are other Apps that do the same thing. QK is the one i use,
and i can pass on the actual saved shortcut.

of course it doesn't hurt to learn the programming!

Nick,

What version of OSX are running and why haven't you upgraded?

hi, Joe.

first, my excuse:
i guess i'm lazy, and what i have works well enough.
my projects are generally long-form, and unusually for me, i have jumped from one to the other now since jan last year.
three projects, all with overlaps,
so there never really was a good time to do un upgrade

i have three computers:
a Powerbook which is OSX7.5
an iMac which is 6.8
and a MacPro, which is shockingly still on 5.8.

the last is starting to be a problem.

i just checked the QK site.

they say:
"not 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion compatible"
but i use it extensively on my laptop which is 10.7

as i say, try it and see how you go
