black and white question
February 06, 2014 10:51PM
i've been given some footage to work with that has its source as telecined black and white film. the files are prores color files, though. in starting the editing process i've just worked with the files as is but am looking ahead and wondering if there's a preferred method to ensure clean black and white. in the work i've done so far there is some color cast and artifacts seeping into some of the images that have effects. the final piece will be entirely black and white, no color footage at all. (working with fcp 6 here.)

thanks,
BabaG

Setting saturation to 0 in the Color Corrector 3-Way filter will remove all residual color. There are other FCP filters that do this, but Color Corrector 3-Way is a wholesome filter.

It's probably OK to wait till you're finished to remove the residual color, but if it annoys you, or if you're very cautious, you can apply the filter early, and even reapply it after some effect reintroduces color.
