Time Code Generator

I put the time code generator filter on my 58 minute HD film (marking the in and out properly) but the time code is not accurate, as at the end it registered 48 minutes. Any suggestions?

FCP 7.1
MacPro Intel
OS X 10.6.8

with a generator, you have to select the settings that match your clip's frame-rate.
you also have to set the right off-set to match your clip;s start time

the time-code READER can be more reliable, if you just want to display the actual TC of the clip.
