FCP 3.0 Log and Capture Challenge

Posted by Toni Carstensen
I am asking this for a friend...

In FCP 3.0.2 if clips are logged by mistake "video only" when they should have been "video and audio" - is there a way to correct the logged shots without having to log in and out timecodes all over again? Obviously the clips would have to be re-captured. Is there a way to change globally?

Any suggestions gratefully welcomed...

Thanks,
Toni

so the clips have been captured?
if so, you have to make them offline.
use the Make Offline window for that (Shift D for delete)

then select all the clips that need to be changed,
locate both the "tracks" column, and the "Audio" column in the browser

control click in the tracks column, change the clips from 1V to 1V,2A
then
control click in the Audio column, choose beteen A1+A2 and Stereo.

i cant remember if this technique is a FCP4 thing or if it works in FCP3 as well.
if it doenst work in FCP3 do this:

make the clips offline.
open Log & Capture
go to "Clip Settings" and select Audio + Video and your audio format, A1+A2, or stereo.
then, when you batch capture the clips, UN-TICK the little box, "use logged clip settings"
your new clip settings will be used for the capture.

try that one one clip, and see if it works. it should.

Nick,

It worked! My friend is very happy....As you suspected, the second process is the one that worked for FCP 3. One little addendum...to make clips off-line successfully in FCP 3, she needed to close the program and then throw the incorrectly captured clips into the Trash and empty it.

When she re-launched FCP 3 your suggested process worked perfectly...

Thank you so much!!

Warmest regards,
Toni
