Dual boot questionPosted by spaceman
I Don't want to UG to Tiger so...
Can I install 10.3.9 on the #2 SATA drive and Keep 10.3.5 on SATA #1 drive and boot from any one I choice. Both using the Application installed in the Applications folder of 10.3.5 (SATA #1 drive)? I want to UG to FCP5 and I'm told that it won't run on any OS below 10.3.9. G5 2.5 gig 30"er G-Raid 500 2 internal 250 SATA drives 8 g ram OS 10.3.5 (Runs Great and has for months) want to load FCP 5 without tiger so I must UG if I want to run it.
So, what you're saying is that you want to use FCP 5, but you don't want to lose the stability that you've had with OS 10.3.5, is that right?
Well, just to reassure you, I'm on 10.3.9 and it's been no trouble so far. You probably won't even notice the difference. If it all goes pear shaped, you can always just reinstall 10.3.5. Of course, it's best not to do this is the middle of an important project. Make sure you do the voodoo dance and repair permissions before and after upgrading. Have a recent backup of your important information. Run Diskwarrior if you have it. And may the Fork be with you, Luke!
Proceeding on my quest...
I've loaded 10.3.9 on SATA #2 while keeping 10.3.5 on SATA #1. All is good (so far). FCP4.5 and the rest of the suite are on SATA #1 running 10.3.5. Question ... Should I install the suite on SATA #2 as well (2 installations), or should I run it while in 10.3.9 (sata #2) from the installed one on SATA #1 (one installation) ? Thanks, A.F.
Yes. Yes yes yes. Not meaning to be rude, but I don't know how many times I have to say you have this.
On your SATA #1 running 10.3.5...have FCP installed. Once. On your SATA #2 running 10.3.9...have FCP installed. Once. FCP will need to be installed on every drive that contains an operating system that you intend to use for FCP editing. Does that clear things up a little? (Not trying to sound condescending).
