24p or 24pA?Posted by Trey
IF I understand your question...the answer is - If you are shooting in 24p you have 2 options to edit:
1. to use FCP in in its basic 29.97 mode - you do not use the advanced mode. (but then why shoot in 24p? I am sure there are reasons) 2. to use FCP in 24p as you want to edit and then go out to film at 24 frames - then yes you must use the Advanced mode. You have no need to remove a pulldown ( which the "A" does in effect) if you are not ever going to need to transition from 24 FPS output. And I repeat my 'if'... cheers.
This isn't a quality issue. There is no difference in quality between 24p and 24pa. It is a difference in workflow.
IF and only IF your FINAL product will be a film print or DVD, should you even CONSIDER 24pA. If you are going to tape at any point, shoot and edit 24p. 24p edits on a regular 29.97 timeline. There is ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE in quality between 24p and 24pA...period. None. Nada. Zippo. It is a matter or workflow and that's it.
