Digitizing footage

Digitizing footage

I am interested in transferring some footage from a Sony tvr-68 Video Hi8 (with s-video) into DV, or MP2. I have both a Sony TVR-38 mini DV and a Canon XL2 mini dv (both with firewire and s-video). Does anyone know what I need to do to be able to bring the Hi8 footage into Final Cut Pro. I figure there must be a way to bring it in through the one of the cameras with fire wire.

Thanks,

Many digital cameras go into "E-E" when you push analog video into them. They will repeat the incoming video and audio at the FireWire digital output.

Plug the FireWire into the Mac and launch FCP Log and Capture as an "Uncontrolled Device". Play the Hi8 deck and the show should transfer to the Mac.

If that *doesn't* work. Make a DV tape and transfer that as a FireWire Controlled Device.

you know a Digital8 camera will play Hi8 tapes out via it's FW port, i believe.

still the best thing i think would be to dub the tape across to DV.
this gives you an "archive" version that you can use for capturing, and accurate batch capturing.
