EDL

I an running FCP 4.5 on a Power Mac G5 dual 2.0 Ghz processor with 4.5 Gigs of Ram. I have 6 tracks of audio in my sequence. I want to create an EDL with all 6 tracks but at the bottom of the EDL Export Options window there's an "audio mapping" feature that will only allow me 4 channels of audio even though 6 are listed. What is audio mapping? Is there a way to activate more than 4 channels? And should I be concerned about any of this if I'm exporting an OMF file anyway? Thanks in advance.

EDLs are from the days of video tape, and as such only support 4 tracks of audio.
(because you cant get more than 4 track of audio on a video tape.. and dont bring up ADAT!)

if you had to make EDLs that refleceted 6 tracks, you;d make 2 EDLS.
one for the A1-4, the other for A5+6.
you;d MAP A5+6 to 1+2 in the EDL.

this was a common way to get info about your track to the sound editors back in the days before OMFs.
then thed' have to batch capture the audio into thier DAWs

but now we have OMFs
and if you are giving the editors them htey dont need EDLs

and if you are just compiling your show, DONT bother with including audio in the EDL.
just do the pictures.
take a playout from your machine of Vision and Audio and use that both as an audio guide, and a confidence check for your picture complie.
check with the online place wether they need a tape or can use a QT file.

cheers,
nick
