Dreaded "unable to connect with background process"Posted by Handcranked Films
So you did this and it didnt work?
Click the Finder in the Dock. From the Go menu, choose Go To Folder. Enter "/Library/Receipts" and click Go. If present, drag files which contain the name "CompressorUpdate" to the Trash. From the Go menu, choose Go To Folder. Enter "/Library/Frameworks" and click Go. Drag the file "Compressor.framework" to the Trash. Go to either the Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio Pro page and download the Compressor 1.2.1 update (you will need to have your serial number). Install the Compressor 1.2.1 update. If so then reinstall FCP and DVDSP. Its not that big of deal and it won't affect your current project(s) You using 4.5, right? Michael Horton -------------------
How to uninstall FCP
[docs.info.apple.com] How to uninstall DVDSP [docs.info.apple.com] Then just install FCP 4 from the CD and upgrade to 4.5 Repair permissions before and after every install. Michael Horton -------------------
try this
Launch Terminal (Application>Utilities>Terminal) and type this: sudo /Library/StartupItems/Qmaster/Qmaster Then hit return, then enter your administrative password. Then you should get a message about Qmaster services starting up. Re-launch Compressor, worked for me in Compressor 2 and many people have said it worked for them in C1 David at Movies Rock in Toronto [www.tofcpug.com]
Hi,
I tried Michaels fix and it doesn work if you uninstall and reinstall FCP4 1st do the upgrades to 4.1 & 4.5 HD then uninstall DVDSP and reinstall. Install Compressor 1.2.1 last. It does work! I had the problem for weeks and this method solved it for me. Every Pro App I have runs seamless with Tiger 10.4.1 now. It's all in the un-install and re-install Thanks Michael
