Anybody know why when I add clips to the time line, an orange bar appears in top of TL (render area) and wants to be rendered with "Unlimited".

If I don't render it plays back but chopy.

Unlimited RT is check as well as all the Dymamics in the "RT" pull down menu.

Thanks

It's 5.0
Re: Render

well given that it's 5.0, it could mean anything....

with dynamic RT, FCP5 will now play any format clip in any sequence..
badly

your clip settings and sequence settings have to match, otherwise you'll get that orange line and choppy playback.

it could be something as subtle as an anamorphic clip in a 4/3 timeline (it'd have to be a a slow computer for that to get an orange line, though).
or it could be a sledghammer difference like a PAL clip in a NTSC timeline.

Nick, Thank you for the responce.

Here are all setttings;

Codec of all clips are "DV/DVCPRO" FR at 29.9 used in tl.
And in the (project) setup it's set at "DV NTSC 48".
There is no setup choice for DV/DVPRO except for HD choices.

In the Sequence menu, under settings, it's setting are; under quicktime compressor "DV/DVCPRO", with FR at 29.9 .
Same place but the Render control tab; FR 100% and Resolution 100%.

No PAL, No Aanamorphic, All clips 4/3.

System is;
Dual 2.5 G5,
8Gig's Ram
Clips stored on a G-Raid Firewire 800 drive (800mg /sec), FC5 on internal SATA drive.
Video card is the NVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra.

None of the drives are evan 1/4 full.

What do you think

Toss Prefs. Create a new Sequence and as Nick says, MAKE SURE seq. and clip settings match PRECISELY.

what kevin says :-)

Ok

Sequence and clip settings match PRECISELY.

Not sure which are the correct pref's. to toss with 5.0, I know 4.5 but these seem to be different.

yes there are more, but they all re-build them selves,
so you can toss the lot.

so now that the settings match, you're NOT getting the orange line?

Yes ... No change ...
Orange line any time I do anything to any clip evan as little as moving it after a render of changing opacity, up comes the Orange line.

This is no better then 4.5 as just to test something a simple as Opacity settings requires rerendering.

Well the only thing I didn't do is toss prefs, but that's the next thing I'll try.

I installed 5.0 studio and all of their updates on Monday.
Did a safe boot and repair permissions befor and after.
Ran Onyx to clean the place up (temps, logs, cashe, etc), no change.

I should say also I'm running 10.3.9 (with no other issues).

So is any one saying this does not happan to them or only me?

If it is normal, Extream RT seems just a hype.

well it's not normal for a clip to need rendering if the sequence settings match.

one way to check them against each other is to get the clip and the sequence to sit next to each other in the browser.
(maybe by putting them in a new bin)
then you can scan along the columns, and catch any discrepancies.
maybe open columns that are hidden.

i wonder if the clips have a composite mode other than normal?
that'll show up in a column.

where did these clips come from?

did you capture them?

Yep Captured them.

I will try your suggetion but first I'm trying to search all over the place including Apples site to ID the prefs that can be removed and where they are that may be different from 4.5
Re: Render

pretty much the same.

3 files i think in the prefs/fcp user data, plus the plist file in prefs.

Got it and will do now..

Could not find that info anywhere.
Re: Render

Well, as you'd have it, you were correct.
when comparing the columes there were some Annamation codec's and the rest were dv/dvcpro.

when I put the sequence (dv/dvcpro) on the same time line as another dv/dvcpro, LOW and behold, NO ORANGE render line, even when adding some effects to it.

You nailed it and I learned a valuable time saver.
I thank you.

I wonder if you've got one more answer to give?

I saw it demo'd at the lafpcug gathering in Hollywood but can't figure out how its done.

Locating from the TL where the clip used is in the browerser. I can revel in finder but how do you revel in the browser? I sure the Apple folks showed that.
Thanks again
