OT, sending files via FTP
July 27, 2005 03:44PM
I have a friend in Oregon, I'm in San Diego. We want to be able to FTP FCP files back and forth. The server is a PC will this cause problems? the files will be self contained movies.

thanx in advance,

kevin

No. The server doesnt matter, it's the computer. Meaning, if it's a QT file and your buddy doesnt have QT then it wont work.

Thanx Mike,

I thought that would be the case. I'll post info later if it works well.

Make sure you put .mov at the end of your qt files.

<<<Make sure you put .mov at the end of your qt files.>>>

Write that down. It's important.

Fetch in AUTO mode looks at the filename to determine whether or not to use ASCII or BINARY to transfer the files. Without the MOV at the end of the filename, it won't know what to do and you may get a damaged file transfer.

You could also force Fetch (or any FTP application) to BINARY to do all the transfers.

You can also send and recieve LARGE files (I have sent up to 100 meg) to each other using AIM or Ichat.
Just make sure that you are both logged on, drag the file to the destination screen name, and voîla.
Great way to exchange files.

I agree with Matt. Ichat's the way to go. Very fast.
