Simply put, you have a dual 1 Ghz G4 without an AGP GRAPHICS card. It was a machine that was built to be cheap (thus the lack of the AGP and the inclusion of a cheaper card) and not designed to work with FCP. It didn't stop Apple from selling it, and not saying that FCP wouldn't work on it. Many people were very angry over this.

Get a new graphics card and replace the one in the machine. Then you should be good to go.

I have a similar question. I have a G4 dual 450, which has beeen upgraded to a dual 1.2Ghz. It still has the original ATI rage 128 Pro video card in it, and it runs FCP 4.5 just fine. When I try to install FCP 5, I get a "missing hardware" message, indicating that I need a video card that supports Quartz Extreme. I take it this means that I need to upgrade my video card in order to run FCP 5.

Am I on the right track? I dont want to make a huge investment in a video card, and I dont know exactly what I am looking for. Can anyone suggest an inexpensive card that will provide Quartz Extreme support, while still being backwards-compatible with my 2X AGP slot?

Thanks for your time....
