Hi All --
How about a Floating Clip Board - where clips can be dragged to preform speed changes - and also frequent effects storage-- now have to drag to end of timeline to work on clips--Ouch-- Also use Clip Board to Store clips for later use-- Shot term storage -view -use- and Or how about having Command C -- be able to store- Many Clips - that can be recalled - viewed and used Please Please- Make the the Type on the windows easier to see--(TC - Everything) Name of clip in Viewer is Super hard to read -- Seriously Add More Color - Brighter -- shades of gray on gray - Ouch - Eye strain Perty soon folks will be able to pick out FCP Users in a crowd by there Thick Glasses -- Please make Color markings for Tool buttons easer to see - Weak Highlighter now -- ouch All Controls and Menus are very Scattered - I think All controls menus ect should be place Between timeline and viewers --All Viewer controls (wireframe ect) Zero controls at top of viewers - no reason to have Anything way up there- No reason to have --File-Edit -View- Mark -Modify -Effects - Ect. at the Top of the screen -- I wonder how many Miles FCP users scroll to get to effects - Ouch Controls need to be more in the Middle -- Less Scrolling -- make Optional layout - make- Buttons- so User can put them where they want on the Top timeline bar - Having Timeline buttons All starting at right end slows things down --------------Spacers =ouch -- Clips in Thumbnail View Color Marking should mark clips Titles or border Not color the thumbnail Picture-- ouch - make Effects Tab in Pull down windows so that I can Arrange in order I want -- makes High Use effects and tools easy and quicker to use -- No Digging threw minus Many of the Top things in minuses are used rarely- waste of time to scroll by 1000s of times - Make option to shut off and on Alphanumeric in browser -- Make Viewer windows so timeline of clip can be Zoomed - capture of over 10 min. its hard to scroll accurately - Have a Button that adds Video and Audio dissolves at same time - Make Key Frame Pin tool adds 2 key frames --optional make Range Select so it Stays Marked -affected portion of timeline- No way to see area -zero markings after work is done- Range Select is perty cool but I never read of anyone using it-- Overall I use FCP because it works Good and I have Very Few problems -- Other editing software is catching up fast and are becoming as stable -- The Winners Prize will got to the Best Interface in the long run-- --Jay--
> Floating Clip Board - where clips can be dragged to preform speed changes -
Why not use the Viewer? > and also frequent effects storage-- You can do this with bins. > now have to drag to end of timeline to work on clips--Ouch-- Not sur ewhat you're referring to, there. > Also use Clip Board to Store clips for later use-- Shot term storage -view -use- Again, why not use bins? The Recent Items feature also does this job to an extent. > I think All controls menus ect should be place Between > timeline and viewers Oh God, I would absolutely detest that. I know I did when working on Avid XPress. It simply cluttered up the timeline. That's just my own preference, though. > make- Buttons- so User can put them where they want on the Top timeline bar - > make Effects Tab in Pull down windows > so that I can Arrange in order I want -- I would do this using Filter Packs (a bin in the Browser containing my frequent effects). If you want them to appear in a certain order, rename the copies of effects you drag in by using alpha-numeric prefices (eg. "01 3 Band EQ" and "50 Color Corrector 3-Way". > Make option to shut off and on Alphanumeric in browser -- Just click on another column heading if you want alpha-numeric off. > Make Viewer windows so timeline of clip can be Zoomed - To zoom in to/out of the timeline with any window selected, press OPTION +/- rather than APPLE +/-. > capture of over 10 min. its hard to scroll accurately - That's an unsoluable problem, isn't it? If they make the timeline long enough to accommodate an hour, people will capture two hours as one clip. I'm usually in the mind to tell them to use Log and Capture to break the clips up. > Have a Button that adds Video and Audio dissolves at same time - They do if the clips are linked, and it annoys me to no end! That's why I always break the links right before I edit. www.derekmok.com
JAY: > now have to drag to end of timeline to work on clips--Ouch--
DEREK: Not sure what you're referring to, there. NICK: talking about working on speed changes in timeline. JAY:> Also use Clip Board to Store clips for later use-- Shot term storage -view -use- NICK: multiple items in the clip board.... interesting concept, i've occasionally wanted that i remember an OS9 utility that could help you achieve that. DEREK:The Recent Items feature also does this job to an extent. NICK: and that extent is that you have to have loaded the clip from the browser. JAY: > make- Buttons- so User can put them where they want on the Top timeline bar - NICK: i hear you JAY: > make Effects Tab in Pull down windows so that I can Arrange in order I want -- NICK: Explore using the effects tab in browser (Apple 5) - SO much better then the effects menu, IMO you can create favourites (Apple 6 to open faves window) Also look into using Apple F in the effects tab. but agree, Effects tab could be improved with a "recent effects" list or similar JAY: > Make option to shut off and on Alphanumeric in browser -- DEREK: Just click on another column heading if you want alpha-numeric off. NICK: that will still sort by whatever column you select. think Jay wants to sort any which way (i remember a recent post about this) JAY:> Make Viewer windows so timeline of clip can be Zoomed - DEREK: To zoom in to/out of the timeline with any window selected, press OPTION +/- rather than APPLE +/-. JAY: > capture of over 10 min. its hard to scroll accurately - DEREK: That's an unsoluable problem, isn't it? NICK: jay is requesting the Viewer "timeline" or scrolling section be zoomable. a pretty common request since FCP began. nick
>>Add More Color - Brighter -- shades of gray on gray - Ouch -Eye strain <<
One more time, the grey is an absolutely purposeful act. It's not there because they couldn't decide on a nicer colour, it's grey because this is the most neutral enviornment to edit in. Changing the colour of your interface effects the look of your footage, so its important that it is grey. This is what makes those people who make their Avid setups fluro green and purple look like they don't really know what they are doing. Yes, very pretty, guys, but professional? No.
