Rendering an 1080 HD in FCP X

I started for my first 30 min 1080 HD movie on a Mac Pro (10.6.8) with 10 GB ram. It's been rendering for 30 minutes now. How long can it take?

Rendering what? Open the background processing HUD and see what it's doing.

Remember, it only renders when you are not doing something in FCP X. if you move the mouse around during rendering, it thinks you are working again, and it will stop rendering. The term Apple uses,
"Background Rendering", is a misrepresentation and misleading.
