crashes when i plug my hard drive in

I?ve just got fcpx,when I?ve tried to import my imovie files from my external drive fcp quit unexpectedly,my laptop 2.3 ghz i5 .now every time i plug the drive in fcp quits,the drives ok
its running in imovie. help me please x

Try changing the sequence of events. Don't connect the drive while FCPX is open. Plug in drive, reboot computer so drive is recognized on startup, start FCPX.

Check for folders on your drive such as "private" or "backup" that could fool FCPX into thinking you have plugged in a camera or memory card.

I?ve got the files in now,but its just quitting all the time as try to work and open files

Try turning off background rendering if it's on.
