Even though it's a kind of shameless self advertisement I thought it might be worth to mention. Feel free to remove the post.
There is a new version for my TEP, which includes some full featured free helper apps (with no limitations)
One is the already mentioned XTE app which allows a (sorted by role export) of FCPX titles from an XML to STL. You also can create a chapter list file for Compressor (or other apps).
Another one is called XTI. It allows to convert a STL into an XML which can be read by FCPX.
The third one called Avid Marker Tool allows to convert an Avid marker list text file to a STL with several timing and editing features.
So using the not real free TEP or some of the free conversions of the TEP light version, you can go from a lot of formats into X or the other way round.
Example: you got a .srt file from a translator. This file can be converted by the TEP light version to STL without any limitation (works with a Pro version as well). Then use the XTI app to get these titles into X.
This will work with many other formats as well.
Finally with this combination you can convert about 20 subtitle formats in to fcpxml for free. And it's the only app currently available with does that.
