Speed Changes in Viewer move markersPosted by Nick Meyers
Is that FCP 6? I'm seeing this really weird one in 5. Reverse a clip, reveal master clip and the out point appears before the in point.

sorry, i forgot the bug report rules:
must give details! i've now tested: DVPAL & ProRes in two machines: FCP 6.0.2 QT 7.4.1 OSX 10.4.11 FCP 6.0.3 QT 7.4.5 OSX 10.5.2 that sounds almost impossible! is this consistent? have you trashed prefs? it's good in the bug report fourum to be quite precise, so i can repeat what you are doing and verify it. or not. meaning i don't quite understand what you are doing (later) ok i think i get it now.. and i thnk what you are seeing is a change of behaviour in FCP5, where speed changes made in the viewer are actually carried in the master clip. so you can match frame a clip fron the timeline, change the speed, cut it back in, yada, blah, etc, then latter open the clip from the browser and find it is not 100%. as of FCP 5.something this is now the way FCP works, for better of worse, and if you ask me it is for the worse. it does impact on what i am experiencing. which is i change the speed of a clip in the viewer because my timeine is so complex, and then i find that al the markers on my MASTER clip are screwed. cheers, nick
Hmm... markers moving. I think it's a new thing with FCP 6. I noticed the markers moving on the timeline. When I had to edit 30 sec promos or commercials, I used to place markers to mark at a 30 sec gap to remind me how long 30 seconds is. I noticed that on FCP 6, when i hit a speed change to a clip on the timeline, the markers move. I haven't been on FCP 6 for months, but i won't be surprised if markers "adapt" to speed changes in the viewer now.
Lemme check on that project. Yes, I almost spilt coffee when I saw the out point appearing before the in point. Haven't trashed preferences yet, as it isn't major and everything else seems to be working fine. For this to happen, mark an in and an out point, insert edit, reverse the clip, trim the edges of the clip and hit "f" to match frame. Voila! Out point appears before In point. From that clip, an insert edit will prompt an "invalid edit" error. Here's a screen shot- "The Out Before the In": www.strypesinpost.com
markers SHOULD move with speed changes.
they should stick to the frame they were applied to, or a close approximation if a speed change makes that impossible. they should always stick to that frame, so if you change the speed back, they are when you first put them. this is what is NOT happening now for me in 6.02 or 6.03 do you have 6.0x? do me a favour, strypes, import a new clip into a project. open it in the viewer, add 5 or so markers evenly spaced. change the speed (50%, 200%, whatever) then change the speed back to 100% "out before in" i'd spill my coffee too if i saw that trash your prefs. most display weirdness is prefs related, IMO nick
> markers SHOULD move with speed changes.
Markers should move with speed changes on the clip itself, but I don't see significant benefits of it moving in the timeline. It didn't move in FCP 5. >do you have 6.0x? Nope. I'll try it out on the 5.1.4 later. www.strypesinpost.com
Tried 3 markers at 3 second intervals. You're right. The markers do not resume their initial position, but go somewhere else...
Noticed this other fairly common sight? Speed ramp a clip in the timeline, unramp it, and later check it again and it says "100.2%"? Might not seem like such a big deal, but when you're in PAL and working between DV and uncompressed, speed ramps, especially with frame blending on, it messes up the field order irregardless of any shift fields filter. www.strypesinpost.com Sorry, you do not have permission to post/reply in this forum.
