how to keep rich blacks when doing "build" in DVDSP3 ?

Hi, I'm losing some of the richness of my blacks when doing a "build" in DVDSP3. When I look at it in the simulator, the darks look fine.

The project is 30min long (originally film), NTSC de-interlaced, encoded as an MPEG-2 with Compressor 2 at 6.2 avg/7.5 max and same bit rate in DVDSP3.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated...

Forget what they look like in the simulator. You can use Quicktime to view the m2v files. That should show you the same thing you'll get when you do the build.

Hi Bob, thanks for responding. My m2v files look correct in Quicktime. But what I've found is that not only does the film lose good blacks, but even the menus, including a slide show.

It seems to happen throughout the entire dvd.

Any other possibilities?

To the best of my knowledge, Build compiles the menus but only muxes the audio and video clips so there shouldn't be any change in color (at least to the m2v files.)

Unless you're able to view the m2v on a monitor, it's hard to say where the shift originates.
