Time for Assets on DVD seems rather small...Posted by mark@avolution
I am creating a multi-buttoned presentation coming out
of Final Cut Pro set to DV editing quality and this looks nice going into DVD Studio. I have loaded 5 tracks so into the main window whilst watching the total for the SD DVD total space meter on the top right hand side (which goes from green to red) My five tracks times are in minutes 1) 5:16 2) 8:24 3) 23:09 4) 11:47 5) 13:49 So this is roughly 61 minutes and already the my meter is calling for 4.4 G used space! The size of the QT files 1) 1.12G 2) 1.78G 3) 4.91G 4) 2.5G 5) 2.93G Anyhow I thought you could get 2 hours of video on a DVD???? Am I doing something quite wrong? Thanks in advance
What encode bit-rate did you use ? Did you run these through Compressor?
I have easily gotten 2.5 hrs of reasonably good content on a DVD-5, but my bit rate had to be LOW. Approximately 3.5 Mbps to 5.0 Mbps. That bit rate determines the total size of each MPEG-2 file. also the total size depends on the audio file used as well. Use AC3 instead of .aiff to reduce total size.

In order to fit more on the DVD; I used Sorenson Squeeze to mpeg2 output and the quality is good at 6Mps. (We don't use compressor as we had a bad experience with the quality with R2) It seems that DVD Studio 4 requires an mpeg stream rather than a QT stream for optimum results. Next time I will make sure I compress my assets into mpeg2 with Sorenson prior to bringing into DVDSP. Thanks

Of course - a .mov file is Quicktime > In order to fit more on the DVD; I used Sorenson > Squeeze to > mpeg2 output and the quality is good at 6Mps. > It seems that DVD Studio 4 requires an mpeg stream > rather than > a QT stream for optimum results. Absolutely, requires MPEG-2 rather than .mov > Next time I will make sure I compress my assets > into mpeg2 with Sorenson > prior to bringing into DVDSP. The fact that you used 6 Mbps will give you a larger sized fie and therefore takes up more space on the disc. Another feature of the audio, get it into Dolby AC3 rather than the default .aiff.
