Have you tried using a mask? That would likely be the easiest. Can you post pics so we can see better what you're trying to do?

Look up in the Help how to use an Image Mask.

I have a Oval Medallion and I want to fill it with live video. I tried The Image mask and just don't have it to a science just yet. I am missing something. Any help with image mask would be helpful.

Assuming the medallion is solid:

1) Select the video layer
2) Choose Object > Add Image Mask
3) Drag the medallion into the well in the HUD
4) If necessary, set the HUD to use the Alpha of the Medallion

If the area you want the video to be inside is transparent, probably easier to simply draw a mask on the video layer based on the shape of the medallion.
