Canvas quality degraded?

I just learned how to import a Motion sequence into FCP. I noticed when I open it in the viewer it looks good, but in the canvas it is pixilated, edges are all blocky. Both are set to 'fit to window' so it is not zoomed in.

Why would it be so distorted in the canvas only?

I really wish these manuals were more useful. sorry to have to ask so many questions online.

Because in the canvas it's been converted to whatever format you're working with in your sequence. If it's DV then it's compressed to that formatted as interlaced video. You need to assess the output on a video monitor.
