Adding Keyframes Manually in Motion?

I'm probably missing something simple here, but ow do I add keyframes manually in the keyframe editor without first using the record mode in the canvas (that works - creates keyframes and then you can change them)

Have tried option click, control click, shift click, rub your belly and hop on one foot click ? no go

Tried their online help but I must be missing something. Any hints?

? Page 103 in the "Motion Grand Tour" Manual deals with keyframes
? Chapter 6 in the "Motion" Help files (page 367 of the .PDF file) deal with Keyframes. This is NOT the "Online Help" files...this is the .PDF that installed with Motion.
