3d object reveal

I have a some 3d extruded text+alpha (kmac) that sits in the middle of screen. I want lasers to run across the edges and reveal the text.

i figure i can get the laser from motion2 and then just key the laser position. The problem is that i cant figure out quite how to create the 3d object fade in with the draw.

what tools would you guys use to create this type of fade in. I am also adding ambient light.

Hmm... I'm not sure exactly what affect you're going for with the laser reveal... Could you find an example on Youtube or something of the effect you're going for?
