Apple script not working?

I have several instances of an "ethereal voice over" in a short film and have come up with a sound i like for one of the clips. i saved it as an apple script and am now trying to apply it to the other VO clips in the timeline. I have the latest version of FCS2. When it opens up in STP the clip briefly appears (half second) before disappearing, leaving me with the clip i've already done but nothing applied to the new clip.
Back in FCP the clips i sent have the (sent) writing at the end of the clip but not the effects applied to the original clip.
Is scripts the only way of applying effects in STP, or is there a copy/paste attributes option?
I have a tutorial in front of me but it isn't working like it does on the video.
I have trashed prefs quite recently.
Any Ideas?
