I'm going to be editing short films, web videos and documentaries which will be shot with a Canon T3i and uploaded to YouTube, Vimeo and Facebook. Some videos will be produced using green screen. I am running Tech Tool Pro anti-virus scan. I opened FCP then turned on my FireWire Drive. iIstantly a Tech Tool Pro window popped up and scanned the FW drive. Next I saw the gray flashes in the FCP viewer and on my video deck and monitor. I now beleive there is a conflict between the FireWire Drive and Tech Tool Virus scan. For this current video project I'm working with an older Mac G4 733 with OS 9.2.2. Drive Set-up does not recognize the FireWire drive and it's listed as "Not Supported". I copied it from the FireWire drive to an internal drive. Then I imported the file from the internal drive into FCP and loaded it into the viewer. The file now plays fine and there aren't any gray flashes. Does this mean my FW drive is too slow? Is here anything I can do to speed up the drive?
