I haven't purchased a proper monitor or gone through the essentials for setting up for color correcting yet. I am gamma correcting an indie piece (at least to hopefully get it into a reasonable ball-park, big disparity between lighting/A/B cams) and it occurred to me that perhaps i can trustby John Johnston - Café LA Most stable OS for FCP Studio 3? - 12 years agoHi all, Before i upgrade my rig i thought it best to check in and ask: What is the most stable/best OS for FCP Studio 3? i tried to do my due diligence but i could not find the answer on the Apple site...and the only other resource I trust is this amazing forum. Just wondering what the best operating system and version of Quicktime is for FCS 6.0.4 on a good ol Power PC? Thank you very much, this forum ROCKS!!! The scenario re: the older machines is identical to what i am confronted with...could you please share with me from your experience what the best settings/codec are?... i all ready delivered the "custom" avi which as you pointed out fcp doesby John Johnston - Café LA Delivery Help! - 13 years agoHello all, I have a real quandary...I have worked super hard on an industrial shot at 1080p and the clients, and their IT guy are insisting that I deliver onto a USB flash drive so that it will play on an average PC laptop with the assumption that the laptop has a windows only media player. I have been exporting via quicktime conversion rendering all day to a custom .avi of 5000 KBytes/seby John Johnston - Café LA Transitions on stills rendered out as Quick Time movies? - 13 years agoHi all, Does anyone know why is it that when I render out a still as a self contained Quick Time movie and re-import into the time line that I am unable to reapply my transitions? I added sufficient frames to the front and back of the stills to account for the transition lengths before rendering and reimporting the self contained Quick Time Movie...so I am stumped. I came across an article (rumor but it has an install screen shot attached see it here: ) claiming that FCP 7 is actually a "Universal" application and that by using the 'Pacifist' app it installs and works just fine... Obviously the system requirements are to the contrary but just wanted to ask... Thanksby John Johnston - Café LA Re: Remove moving unwanted objects? - 13 years agoHi Nick, Thank you so much! I really appreciate that you took the time to give and explain to me your process. I will give it a try...but as you pointed out to pull it off seamlessly may be too tall an order on such a short deadline. I did try exporting an image sequence and cloning areas around the logos in Photoshop then re-imported BUT it took over two hours for a 1.5 second image seby John Johnston - Café LA Remove moving unwanted objects? - 13 years agoHello friends, Just wondering if anyone has a method for removing unwanted moving objects from footage? I need to remove branding logos on fabric samples from a clothing manufacturing company's promotional film... So I either have to re-cut the footage cutting around the logos or learn a technique for removing them... Any ideas? Yes, those Vimeo HD clips are excellent...I will do some due diligence re: the low, med, and highest common speed denominators...and hope that their clients have relatively recent/decent laptops. I realized that even a 7 second clip was over 1 gig...epically massive... I had once delivered an SD Uncompressed 10 bit with no issues but uh, my bad for not thinking through the obvious. SD is a far cry from 1920 x 1080... I simply need to deliver the Native H.264 1920 x 1080 @ 30fps files to Uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2 @ 1920 x 1080 @ 30 fps. Simple Quicktime conversion right? The Uncompressed files are all there when I scrub through frame by frame but the client is upset because it will not play in QT. Anybody have any experience with the Rodes NTG shotgun? I need a broadcast/deliverable quality mic and read the great 3 mic review from July 2001 linked from LAFCPUG...just dunno which one to go with...want to use it mainly for dialogue/camera attached... Was advised to save and get a used Sennheiser 416p Is there really an appreciable difference? Thanks! Johnby John Johnston - Café LA Re: HD Delivery - 15 years agoHey Strypes, RE: The HVX does NOT capture 1920x1080. The CCDs have a resolution of 960x540 pixels which is then uprezzed to 1920x1080 via pixel offset. Then it is compressed to the codec you select. Thanks for the correction. Absolutely right...sorry my bad, was weary when I read "even though each CCD has only 960?540 photosites. Internally the camera uses 1920?1080." Best, Johnby John Johnston - Café LA Re: HD Delivery - 15 years agoHi Ben, I cannot tell you how happy it made me to read that you have successfully captured 10 bit 1920 x 1080i 50 uncompressed on a similar machine because i imagine that capturing is more processor/workstation intensive then rendering out. Looks like PRO RES renders out at the source media parameters...and the HVX CCD's evidently capture @ 1920 x 1080 BUT down convert to 1280 x 1080 onto P2. So that route won't meet the pixel dimension delivery requirements of 1920 x 1080.
