When SmoothCam filter is added, it looks for the analysis file with the same name as the clip but different extension inn the same folder as the actual clip. So, baring moving this file, I am free to add this filter anywhere I choose on any sequence or project, and it will find the analysis file. I seem to be able to switch angles fine in the viewer with mode set to "open", but when I stop to adjust with the roll edit tool, the old pizza wheel spins for awhile.by Cris McConkey - Café LA SmoothCam with multicam? - 10 years agoI need to do a two camera multicam edit, but one of the angles has a lot of motion. It took about 12 hours for SmoothCam to analyze the footage (I am using FCP 7) but the motion in places is so severe that auto scaling is off and rendering does nothing. If I razor cut a sub-clip on the timeline, then it may work for a given section. Here is my question: Can I make a multiclip with the Sby Cris McConkey - Café LA Re: Question about restoring project - 12 years agoMuch better solution. Thanks.by Cris McConkey - Café LA Question about restoring project - 12 years agoI accidentally deleted a portion of an edited audio track. Before I lose more of my project, am I correct that if I go back and restore project, as long as I don't save, I can export the missing audio clips, close the project without saving it, and it will revert to my last saved project before I went ti restore. Well, I figured that I wouldn't get a timely respose, so I did it any way. I may end up with a camera that only shoots 1080p. I want to minimize the time spend transferring the footage into Final Cut and converting the footage to match the format of the P2 cameras (960 x 720p, Proby Cris McConkey - Café LA Re: Boinx TV - 13 years agoDear Michael and Losangelo, Thanks for you reply. I am glad to hear that the momentary black hiccups are not a pervasive issue. I have a Macbook pro 2.4 GHz with NVIVEA GeForce 8600M GT graphic chip. Last I tried, with a previous version of Boinxtv, it didn't make the grade. I didn't want to making the investment for a new MacPro without getting some assurance that the system will work for mby Cris McConkey - Café LA Boinx TV - 13 years agoHas anyone been using Boinx TV for live camera switching, compositing, and CG? I have been thinking about this for awhile. The software is pretty affordable, but it requires a powerful computer and graphics card. The output is via screen capture, and is limited to display resolution. Issues for which I'm concerned include audio/video sync and camera switching. We'll be in a large theater, and may have to go 50 or 100 foot of cable run.by Cris McConkey - Café LA Re: Color correction filter for video projector - 14 years agoIt is difficult, but spill can be kept to an acceptable level. The problem is matching exposures between screen and subject. Modern video projectors are pretty bright and can overcome rook light, but it can be possible even with out a large separation between presenter and screen. I've done it before with good results by adjusting the projectors color temperature and output. This gets it inby Cris McConkey - Café LA Re: Color correction filter for video projector - 14 years agoI was assuming that there might be optically correct color correction lens filters that I could put in front of the video projector. E.g.: These filters are pricey, and it would be a real gamble which one to get. Also, there is no orange, just red and yellow. I know it It isn't the best way to do things, but I did set two different white balance settings and switched from one to the otby Cris McConkey - Café LA Re: Color correction filter for video projector - 14 years agoNoah, I don't want any post production work. I want to match as close as possible the color temperature of the projector to the color temperature of the room. I suppose another solution would be HMI lights or color correction gels on all the lamps, but it seems a lot easier to correct the projector with filters when there is no menu option to change the color temperature toward tungsten.by Cris McConkey - Café LA Color correction filter for video projector - 14 years agoHas anyone tried attaching a color correction filter to the lens of a video projector to match tungsten? One one shoot, I had the cooperation of an AV support person at the college where I was video recording. The particular projector did have a color temperature and brightness control, so I was able to pretty closely match the exposure and color temperature for the presenter and presentationby Cris McConkey - Café LA Re: advice on editing intraframe AVC - 14 years agoAre saying is that I really need to upgrade to FCP7 because ProRes is uncompressed?by Cris McConkey - Café LA Re: advice on editing intraframe AVC - 14 years agoThanks. I figured the costs would just escalate going to HD --$300 according to the ad I see for FCS upgrade. I really hate interlacing, and that's part of what is driving me in this direction. I need to purchase a PC2 card for my camera. AJ-P2E032XG There were some good prices a few weeks ago, but now everything seems to be back up to $600 +, save for one offer from Full Compass.by Cris McConkey - Café LA advice on editing intraframe AVC - 14 years agoCan I use FW400 wit an external 7200 rpm drive to edit intraframe AVC 100 mbps video? My computer is a MacBook Pro. Thanks, Crisby Cris McConkey - Café LA Re: Recorded Computer Monitor flicker - 14 years agoI had moderate success cropping and feathering, then using Joe's "frame blender" filter. Of course, you will lose detail when blending frames. Alternately, you might use the slip tool for V2, or just move it a frame up or down the track and change opacity to blend, and perhaps repeat on V3 with another shift. It was quite a while ago when I did this and it was a locked down shot. Iby Cris McConkey - Café LA Re: De-interlacing and noise reduction with Bitvice purifier - 14 years agoThanks Nick for your replies. Useful to know that at 100% FCP's viewer and canvas show both fields. As for frame controls in Compressor, at least with my Macbook Pro, the render times have were way to long, which is why I used a combination of deinterlace blur followed by sharpen. As long as I was scaled down the size of my video, it didn't seem too bad. I also have rarely checked multiple pby Cris McConkey - Café LA Re: Getting rid of letters from video - 14 years agoIf the letter has a solid red background, you might try using color matte on the video track above, then crop and feather (go to motion tab of viewer for feather). Use eyedropper on canvas to match the color matte to the same color as text background. If there is a motion, this may not be a suitable method.by Cris McConkey - Café LA De-interlacing and noise reduction with Bitvice purifier - 14 years agoI purchased a copy of Bitvice purifier. It does a dandy job of suppressing video noise without noticeable softening of the image. It takes care of the noise on my second consumer camera which I use for video inserts. It is incredibly easy to use --just click the "threshold" button as many times as needed. It might not handle the severe noise for which I have used Grain Surgery in thby Cris McConkey - Café LA Re: 16:9 project encoding/burning time - 15 years agoI've never encoded from DVDSP. This is not to say that there is anything wrong doing it that way, I just never do it that way. I encode first then import to DVDSP. You might try encoding using Compressor and see if that helps.by Cris McConkey - DVD Studio Pro Why not anamorphic disc from 4:3 letterbox source? - 15 years agoSo, why do I want to make an anamorphic DVD from my letterboxed 16:9 SD source video? That is a fair rhetorical question to ask myself. One reason not to is that recent widescreen TV sets, I have been told, will auto sense the black bars for the letter box and auto zoom to eliminate the bars so that the video occupies the whole screen. I can't verify this at home as I have an older tube set onby Cris McConkey - DVD Studio Pro XLR Tee splitter for podium? - 15 years agoI am looking for an XLR tee connector, male to female on the length, with male connector on the right angle. I want this so that I can tap into a gooseneck microphone on a podium where I do not have access to where I can insert a mic splitter box. Instead, I would put an isolation transformer in line from the tap where the gooseneck mic is pushed into the XPR socket on the podium. I have a Panasonic AG-DVC200 and had been considering a wide angle converter for my Canon YH13X7.5K12U lens, but the added expense of a rail support system and matte box is something that I'd rather defer (though the system might be transferable when I replace my camera, I'd rtaher doby Cris McConkey - Café LA Re: Advice on wide angle converters - 15 years agoOK, I finally found their web site: [16x9inc.com] and have sent the required form mail to get in touch with a distributor. I've been thinking about this a lot. The wide angle converter is really critical to the documentary I wish to make, much of which will be inside restaurants and kitchens, where I will be too close to get a proper shot. This makes it impossible to add new chapter marks in DVDSP on the first frame after a scene change, unless the video was marked up before encoding. Is this a sensible work flow? - 16 years agoInterlaced video is the root of all evil. I wish I had progressive footage to start with. As it turned out, after applying the quick de-interlace filter in FCP , rendering a sequence I tthought was progressive, I still got some jaggies. So I had to use the de-interlace (blur) plus sharpen edges which gave me acceptable results.
