When using a text effect (for instance Blur), to effect the text onscreen, when the effect is over and the text returns to the original, unaltered state there is a noticeable "jump" in the text. Does anyone else experience this? I need to animate a boat along a waterway for a few miles and would like to be able to follow the boat along the path fairly closely so the map needs to be pretty large/hi resolution. I have a client who wants me to shoot in 720p 24p (which I have had no experience with) for final delivery for broadcast...so I have a few questions for the pros. First, would it be better to shoot in 24PN (AVC Intra) to save space on the P2 cards (shooting on HPX 300)? Or should I stick with standard 24p? Didn't mean to start you two off! If I create text in Motion and bring it into FCP all is fine....but I don't know if it's possible in Motion to access the Textures that are offered in LiveType. Of course the textures in the Motion Library show up fine... as do the LiveFonts and such. Just to let you both know...after the problems I had due to the upgrade process I chose, I bby TVTerry - Café LA LiveType Textures not appearing in FCP - 14 years agoYet another issue after upgrading to Snow Leopard.... My text created in LiveType with a texture fill doesn't show up in FCP with the texture fill...the text is simply white. I've trashed prefs and still no luck. When I do the QT export with the ProRes 422 codec, the resulting file shows up in QT as 640 x 480....yet the QT inspector says the format is "Apple ProRes 422 720 x 486 (640 x 480)" and the Current Size is "640 x 480 (actual)". First, I tried JustinB's suggestions of deleting thumbnail/waveform cache & render files, etc. and that didn't help. Second, I tried removing FCS 2 and reinstalling FCS 2 and that didn't help. Finally, I bought a new SATA drive to use as a new system drive and installed Snow Leopard and FCS 3 on it. All of my other projects that I've tried so far open fine. A buddy of mine was able to open the project file on his machine, but he is running FCP 7 (Studio 3). I have yet to upgrade to to Studio 3 but since he was able to open it, I think I'll try to do the upgrade tonight and see if it'll open after that.by TVTerry - Café LA Re: Large project crashing after Snow Leopard upgrade - 14 years agoThe project file is 365 MB....I said it's a HUGE project. I did start another project as a continuation of this one a couple months ago but I still have items in the original that I'm needing to revise. I got the message "This project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut." I can open all other current projects fine but this one always crashes at about 35% of the "reading project" stage. I sometimes get a message saying "This project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut." I have the file in it's original whole state as well as two diagonal halves. Has anyone done this....and maybe have a tip or two? Thanks!by TVTerry - Motion Re: Sony EX3 or JVC HM700??? - 14 years agoCraig, thanks tons for your time and knowledge! Great info here. I wish someone that works with the JVC would impart their knowledge of that camera the way you did with the EX3! You've definitely calmed some of my fears of the EX3...I was leaning toward the JVC prior to this but now I don't know! The image quality of the EX3 is SUPERB so that's hard to pass on. You're right, the JVC doesn't do interval recording....but I don't think I'd miss it really. I do love the shoulder-mount design...very similar to the larger betacams I began shooting on (only WAY lighter). Do you notice much in the way of your system bogging down when you add a few layers and/or effects to your footage? And you mentioned fast pans being an issue witby TVTerry - Café LA Sony EX3 or JVC HM700??? - 14 years agoI'm in the market to go HD and am researching cameras. I LOVE the image quality of the EX3 but am concerned about the extra expense of all the extra equipment/media and transcoding necessary. If anyone shoots on the EX3, please let me know what additional equipment you needed and any wisdom you can share about your experience with it. It's a Maxtor 200GB SATA. It doesn't matter if I export a self-contained movie or a reference file...either way she locks up! It seems whatever data I try to put on or take off that drive locks her up...but when I initially power up, I can access the files on there fine.
